The ancient Tayrona culture has left behind numerous remains, providing insights into their civilization. A recent discovery that can help visitors learn about this ancient culture is the archaeological ruins of the alternate Lost City near Tayrona, located in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. This site is a great alternative to the famous Ciudad Perdida tour for those who have little time or want a more convenient option.

The site’s holds a symbolic name which can be translated as “place of the stones that speak,” which relates to the rock carvings found on its terraces that seem to tell a story to visitors. The locals have dubbed this archeological site the “second Lost City” due to its comparison to Ciudad Perdida, although it is less extensive. The terraces of this place can be visited in a 2 or 3 -days expedition, making it a great alternative for those with limited time or who find the Ciudad Perdida tour too demanding.

The physical effort required is less, and visitors can spend one or two additional days exploring other cultural sites in the area. To reach the terraces, visitors will require a guide as the path are not indicated on geolocalisation map applications. The tour that includes visiting Donama stones, 3 meals per day, transportation to the starting place of the hike overnight near the archaeological ruins, and continuing the next day to one of the entrances of Tayrona Park or Santa Marta. There are few accommodation options near the ruins, therefore the tour includes an authentic night stay at some locals living in the area. This destination is still developing from a tourist perspective, which provides an opportunity to discover a new place that connects nature, culture, and adventure.
